Disney’s World of Color
Jun 16
On Friday, June 11, Disneyland re-opened Paradise Bay in California Adventure for their newest attraction, Disney’s World of Color. On a side note, I heard on the news that on this same day, Disney’s hotel workers staged a walk-out due to disputes between Disney and the union over pay issues. Apparently it was reported that the workers attempted to block all entrances leading into the amusement park.
Anyways, I took my family here on Saturday to see this newest attraction. My wife and I were debating if Disney could really make a water fountain choreography as well as the Bellagio water fountain show in Las Vegas, Nevada. We were completely blown away. Disney’s World of Color completely exceeded all expectations and more.
At the Bellagio, their fountains consist of two basic parts. One part is the jets formed in a circular pattern. The second part is the jets formed in a straight line. The Bellagio is able to create amazing choreography to go along with the music by using just these two parts, but needless to say, they are very limited and restricted as to what they can accomplish.
Disney’s World of Color has a different approach. The jets are arranged in a huge rectangle fashion. The middle of the rectangle is also filled with jets. I didn’t get a good look, but I would like it was about 25-35 jets per row and 10-15 jets per column. Having them arranged in this fashion, Disney is able to create effects that were absolutely amazing, more so than what the Bellagio could ever do. The effects of the water, combined with laser lights coming from all directions, a projector to project images onto the wall of water and small ball shaped screens around the lake, has made this a jaw-dropping show that is unlike anything I have ever seen.
Of course there are other comparisons. The Bellagio has many different variations of their fountain show that lasts 3-8 minutes each and performs at :00, :15, :30, :45 of every hour between 20:00 and 24:00 hours. Disney’s World of Color is only one show, no variations, but it lasts 25 minutes long and you definitely won’t grow tired of watching it for years to come. I do hope that Disney plans on making a different choreography in the future, just to change it up like they do with their fireworks show.
The only negatives there are with Disney’s World of Color, is first, you need to get a FastPass ticket to watch the show and it’s a first come first serve basis. You don’t get to pick which show to watch nor where you will be. Next is the seating. If you got a FastPass ticket, you’ll be standing. They have areas around the bay sectioned off for people to stand depending on the color that’s stated on your ticket. There are reserved sections available where you have chairs to sit in, but apparently you need to purchase a dining package to get those special tickets. The World of Color Dining Package can be purchased from Ariel’s Grotto or Wine Country Trattoria. You can also purchase a World of Color Picnic Meal which is cheaper, but the food isn’t as great. If you don’t want to purchase a meal, but would care for a drink, guests 21 and older can order and enjoy cocktails and beers in the Cove Bar at Ariel’s Grotto during show times. It’ll be a side view, but it’s still a good view and you’ll be sitting with a beverage in hand.
Disney’s World of Color is a must see attraction. The Bellagio water fountain show can’t even compare. Between the two shows, the Bellagio’s fountain looks like a busted lawn sprinkler.
